IIT@Center for Life Nano and Neuro-Science

IIT@Center for Life Nano and Neuro-Science (CLN2S) was born in 2010 and coordinated by the supervisor Prof. Giancarlo Ruocco, who focuses on developing new technologies to investigate neurosciences, from molecular to systems. The laboratory has provided research facilities for 7 ERC project recipients and more than 20 research projects in the national research foundation of Italy and European Commission H2020. It hosts different state-of-the-art facilities and development labs, such as different types of microscopes, in-vivo Brillouin microscopy instrumentation, a wet lab (about 500 square meters), biochemistry fluorophores development, cells, and tissues culture labs, etc.

Disruptive Technological Advances In Life Science

D-Tails Srl SB is an Italian Benefit Corporation rooted in over thirty years of scientific and entrepreneurial experience. Its origins date back to Crisel Instruments, followed by CrestOptics, and today, D-Tails, founded by Vincenzo Ricco, together with a consolidated team of engineers who form the company’s technological core, as well as expertise in finance and management.

In 2015, a strategic collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) resulted in the creation of a JointLab, a platform for advanced research in biomedical imaging and diagnostics, which remains operational to this day.

At the end of 2021, D-Tails was established as a spin-off of CrestOptics. In May 2023, it formally became a Benefit Corporation under Italian law, embedding ESG principles into its bylaws and reaffirming its mission: advancing research on the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and developing noninvasive diagnostic technologies for breast and prostate cancer. D-Tails is driven by scientific curiosity and the conviction that research generates long-term value for society. Its approach connects disciplines and sectors, combining complementary skills and stakeholders in a single vision aimed at fostering knowledge, innovation, and sustainable impact.
